2015 Ford Mustang 50 Years Limited Edition to Serve as NASCAR Pace Car

One of the 1,964 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Years Limited Edition vehicles will have the honor of serving as the pace car at this year’s NASCAR races at Homestead-Miami Speedway. At the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races, onlookers will have a chance to see the special-edition Wimbledon White 2015 Ford Mustang lead the pack to the green flag.
Ford CEO Mark Fields will pilot the 5.0-liter, V-8-powered 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang to open the Sprint Cup, while vice president of U.S marketing, sales, and service, John Felice will take the reins for the Nationwide Series race.

The 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition debuted at the 2014 New York auto show to honor a half-century since the smash premiere of the 1964 Ford Mustang at the same locale. Unique trim package changes include chrome trim for the grille, windows, and taillights; a faux chrome gas cap in the rear fascia; louvered quarter windows; and 50 Year Limited Edition badging. Inside, the special-edition Mustang boasts a leather interior with cashmere stitching, unique floor mats dolled up with cashmere and suede, and a special aluminum dashboard trim.
All 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition models come from the Flat Rock, Michigan, factory with the optional GT Performance package—that means wider 19-inch alloy wheels shod in Pirelli P-Zero rubber, Brembo brakes, and a limited-slip differential.

In September, the 1,964th example of this special-edition Mustang was auctioned off on the Barrett-Jackson block, with proceeds benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The winning bidder brought home the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Years Edition for $170,000, also taking home a ticket to see one of the other 50-Year Mustangs at the Homestead-Miami NASCAR races.

The 2015 Ford Mustang is Ready to Go Global

During its remarkable 50-year run, the Ford Mustang has seen its share of ups and downs, and it has elicited some frowns (ahem, Mustang II). It’s gone from boulevard cruiser to big-block bruiser; crushed it at the dragstrips; raced and won thousands of times on all manner of circuits; and helped burnish the names Saleen, Roush, and Shelby. It’s been a star on the silver screen more than 300 times, and smoked ’em long and loud at countless stoplights all over America. And now the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang is poised to run wild worldwide.
Students of Mustang history know this isn’t the first time Ford’s ponycar has been shipped off to foreign lands. If you’re up on what a T-5 is, then you know. (Hint: It’s a rebadged Mustang.) But the sixth-generation car, internal designation S550, has a mission far beyond what was attempted several decades ago. Ford wants the Mustang to be a global sports car player, and thanks to its One Ford efforts, it now has a chance to make that a reality. Built and shipped out of Ford’s plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, the Mustang will come in both left- and right-hand drive and will be available in some 120 countries. Soon the sun will never set on the Mustang Empire.

“People all over the world have been waiting for this,” outgoing Ford CEO Alan Mulally said during the new Mustang’s reveal last December. “Without One Ford we couldn’t have done it.” Given that the first allotment of 500 cars slated for Europe sold out in 30 seconds, it seems as though the world is indeed waiting impatiently.
That the 2015 Ford Mustang will be on the slow boat to anywhere at all is due in part to the vision of Mulally, who saw a company that needed to become One in all phases of vehicle development. During his reign, he helped transform the automaker into a lean machine that is now capable of churning out cars, trucks, and SUVs that can be produced and sold just about anywhere on the planet Ford operates, with only slight modifications depending on market.
Once production of the new car ramps up nationally in 2015, here’s betting sales will be way up with a bullet.
Ford’s global Mustang strategy couldn’t be coming at a better time. While sales were up 3.5 percent in August of this year versus last August, they were down by 7 percent to 77,186 for all of 2013, and the Mustang has been consistently outperformed by its main bogey, the Camaro. Once production of the new car ramps up nationally in 2015, here’s betting sales will be way up with a bullet. How long they will stay up is the question, and that’s why branching out beyond America’s shores is so important.
Of course, there are risks to the One Ford strategy. The 2015 Mustang’s sheetmetal, which was influenced by Ford’s European design squad, hasn’t exactly been well-received by the faithful, and that’s being charitable. And in trying to appeal to 120 markets, Ford risks diluting a uniquely American brand.

But a car like the Mustang will ultimately be judged by how it drives. You can check out our first in-depth impressions of the car from West Coast editor Michael Jordan by clicking here. I was also able to score a brief run in a GT with the 435-horse, 5.0-liter V-8, six-speed manual combo we secured for our photo shoot, and I came away feeling good about the future of Ford’s new pony. It bucked and roared when I mashed the throttle, the six-speed’s operation was direct, it handled more like a modern sports car, and the interior is much improved. It still has elements of what made the car great, but with a contemporary flair, which should play well outside the U.S.
For 50 years (or 45, poor Mustang II), the Mustang has mattered to America. Will it matter to the rest of the world? The answer to that question will go a long way toward determining if it survives another 50.

2015 Ford Mustang invades SEMA, led by King Cobra

Ford showcased more than a dozen customized 2015 Mustangs at its sprawling 20,000-square foot display this week at the Las Vegas Convention Center as the iconic pony car's 50th anniversary celebration continued at the SEMA Show.

While Mustangs are always a hot commodity at SEMA, the new generation brought increased attention from the aftermarket, as builders like Galpin Auto SportsRichard Petty's Garage and Vaughn Gittin Jr. offered their takes on the new 'Stang.

The extensive display included a range of Mustangs from mild to wild, with everything from a 600-plus horsepower King Cobra pictured at the top, to paint-and-wheel packages. The new regal Cobra, which we spied early in our SEMA adventure this year, may not be the replacement for the Cobra Jet as we speculated, but it does seem to point the way forward for the next iteration of a supreme Ford dragster. Fat drag slicks out back make it's reason for being abundantly clear, and for tells us that modded car is good for a 10.97-second quarter-mile run.

The Mustang's 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine was also of particular interest this year. One tuner, called Full-Race Motorsports, amped the power from the engine's stock 310-hp rating to more than 500 hp in a kit dubbed the "FreakoBoost."

Stampede of Customized 2015 Ford Mustangs to Debut at 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas

– Uniquely modified 2015 Mustangs will be on display in the expansive Ford booth at the 2014 SEMA show, which takes place at Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 4-7

– Aftermarket tuners are getting a chance to coax even more power from the all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost® four-cylinder engine

– Performance specialists will demonstrate newly developed aftermarket parts to enhance the track handling of the 2015 Ford Mustang

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 21, 2014 – Ford Motor Company is bringing performance to the halls of the 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association show, performance that can be summed up in one name – Mustang.

Working with top builders including Galpin Auto Sports, Petty's Garage, MRT and many others, Ford will showcase over a dozen custom Mustangs in its 20,000-square-foot booth at Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 4-7, with even more new pony cars on display around the show floor.

The 2015 Ford Mustang marks a dramatic change in mechanical components for aftermarket companies to work with. The next-generation Mustang includes an all-new independent rear suspension and new multilink front suspension that is being tweaked by Roush, Steeda and others. Expect to see plenty of 5.0-liter V8s roaring around SEMA, but the spotlight will be on the all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost® four-cylinder engine, which provides a whole new platform for experienced turbocharging specialists. With 310 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque, the 2.3- liter EcoBoost makes plenty of power from the factory, but there's much more potential for performance. Several tuners will be on hand with high-powered versions of the new turbo four- cylinder from Ford.

Petty's Garage will be bringing a Mustang with a purpose – a Roush supercharged V8 model wearing Richard Petty's famous blue paint and a discrete No. 43, Petty's car number in his NASCAR days. The car will be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson with proceeds benefiting Victory Junction, which is dedicated to helping chronically ill children attend summer camp.

Galpin Auto Sports is celebrating 50 years of Mustang with a golden anniversary car. This 2015 Mustang features restyled front and rear fascia with a gold motif. The car wears metallic gold- flecked black paint and gold badges, and features interior trim work and special wheel calipers. To top it all off, a gold powder-coated Whipple supercharger helps the 5.0-liter V8 develop 725 horsepower.

For fans of Formula DRIFT, Vaughn Gittin Jr. will put on a show with his heavily modified 2014 Ford Mustang RTR at the three-acre Ford Out Front motorsports and display venue.

Galpin Auto Sports Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Ford Mustang at 2014 SEMA Show

• Galpin Auto Sports celebrates golden anniversary of Ford Mustang production with modified all-new pony car featuring gold theme

• Gold powder-coated Whipple supercharger enhances output of 5.0-liter V8 engine to 725 horsepower

• Custom LED headlights give the face of Mustang a whole new look

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 21, 2014 – The tuning arm of the largest Ford dealer in the United States, Galpin Auto Sports, also known as GAS, is paying tribute to the long history of Ford Mustang with a customized car debuting at the 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association show. The 2015 GAS Mustang carries a golden anniversary concept to celebrate the car's 50 years of continuous production.

GAS began by giving the all-new Mustang a facelift, borrowing styling elements found elsewhere in the car. The front fascia is restyled to match the three strakes found in the factory headlights. New headlights have been created that integrate LED turn signals and turn on in sequence – just like the rear turn signals. A carbon fiber front splitter and rocker panels have been installed, as well as a more aggressive rear diffuser.

Open the hood to find a Whipple supercharger sitting atop the 5.0-liter Coyote V8. This is no off- the-shelf unit though; it's been custom powder-coated to appear gold. A glass window integrated into the hood is designed to show off the engine, but the GAS Mustang is not just about looks. The car produces an astounding 725 horsepower. Suspension components from Steeda and an all-new exhaust from Magnaflow round out the mechanical enhancements.

"We like the black and gold idea, and really wanted to get the color as close to 24-carat gold as possible," said Brandon Boeckmann, GAS operations manager. The 20-inch wheels, side sills, brake calipers and badging are all finished in gold. Inside, everything that is normally chrome or metallic has either been blacked-out or given the Midas touch. The Recaro seats are covered with a fabric finished in black and gold, and the headliner is black microsuede. The exterior is finished in paint that may appear black, but on further inspection is filled with gold metallic flecks.

The 2015 GAS Ford Mustang will be on display in the expansive 20,000-square-foot Ford booth at the 2014 SEMA show taking place at Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 4-7.
